What’s the difference between luxury vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile?

Homeowners most often choose a stone look and wood-look luxury vinyl flooring, but there are other designs, too. More flooring materials, like ceramic and cement, are simulated, and there are lots of colorful geometric patterns. Folks in Fairfax, Virginia, can find a great selection of luxury vinyl at Flooring America Fairfax. We provide a mobile showroom, too.

Similarities

There are differences between luxury vinyl tile and luxury vinyl plank flooring that are worth considering. But it's important to note that both are composed of the same materials. LVT and LVP have four layers: backing, core, image, and wear. The best planks and tiles are waterproof, stain and scratch-resistant, and capable of handling heavy foot traffic.

Style

LVP and LVT differ in style. Planks look like various wood species, while LVT mimics wood and tile materials like stone and ceramic. Tiles come in many colors, which can be combined to create a unique design. Manufacturers also offer specialty tiles like medallions to enhance a floor. So don't discount LVP if you want to add color to a room. Instead, consider multi-tonal planks.

Installation

The majority of LVP brands are designed for floating floor installation. This means that planks lock together at the edges no need to be attached to the subfloor. Many LVT brands are designed to be glued to the subfloor, although many floating floor brands exist. A third option, semi-permanent loose lay luxury vinyl, butts together.
